Bismarck's Main Street can be busy place. A new housing development will soon give seniors an opportunity to be part of the action.
MetroPlains Management's goal with this new building is to create a community within a community. This new 30 unit, affordable housing project is an eco-friendly place to live. "Energy-efficient amenities like LED lighting, energy-efficient appliances, we really have great windows that bring in a lot of light to try to heat it up in the winter," said Jamie Hager, regional manager. Other features in the apartments include a community room, sun room, game room and a chapel. That's not the best part about living in these low-income housing units. "What's really cool about this building is it's in a downtown environment, it's senior, it's near hospitals and amenities that we know people are moving to Bismarck for," said Hager. MetroPlains Management say they're hoping to achieve a new downtown atmosphere for senior residents, allowing them to be in walking distance of just about everything. Subsidized rent for one and two bedrooms range from $370 to $806 per month. "We've already got strong demands on it. So, the units are, the market is still good in Bismarck for senior housing," said Hager. The name of the development is 100 West Main. The doors to these downtown senior suites could open as soon as July 1.
